THE SELFLESSNESS EFFORTS OF LOCAL CHILDREN TO FEED THE WORLD

On December 7th the 3rd graders from Lubbock-Cooper North Elementary came to Breedlove for a tour and the “Feed the NEED” awareness program. This was not just another group coming to watch potatoes being dehydrated. These were kids and teachers who had decided that they wanted to do something to help the hungry.

Instead of giving each other $5 gifts for their Christmas party exchange, the students took their five dollars that would have bought a stuffed animal or a bag of candy and gave it to Breedlove where it made an unbelievable impact! While the students were at Breedlove, they learned about hunger, malnutrition, and starvation. When the kids found out that 16,000-18,000 children, like them, die every day from hunger-related causes the room went silent. The children were concerned and the questions that followed were serious. One thoughtful girl asked ‘what would it take to feed those 16,000 children?’ The answer came after they had gone back to their school and the money they brought had been counted. With the money these selfless 3rd grade students donated, 17,244 meals will be provided for the hungry!

IT MULTIPLIED!!!

General Steel, a long-time Breedlove supporter, heard about these special students and wanted to praise the compassionate efforts these 3rd graders were making. A surprise presentation to the caring kids was made Wednesday, December 19, 2007. General Steel not only matched the donation, but went far above so that many more lives would be spared.
With their combined contributions, Breedlove will be able to feed 79,744 people!!

This is an amazing example to all of us that share this community that the true spirit of Christmas is not found in the gifts we receive, but in the gifts we give!
