Breedlove is made up of devoted, hard working people who contribute greatly to the mission of feeding the hungry. At the head of this organization is General Manager, David Fish. He is joined by many devoted and motivated individuals. They drive Breedlove forward in an effort to continually grow and expand the possibilities for the organization and ultimately for those they serve. To these individuals, working at Breedlove is not about money, recognition, or power. It is about being aware of the reality and severity of hunger throughout the world and working to find innovative ways to make a difference in people’s lives.
Breedlove’s management is made up of individuals who come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Their educational backgrounds, skills, talents, and work experience range from agriculture to food science to administration. The backgrounds may be different, but the future they hope to build for the hungry brings them together as a truly united team.
It is the “team” atmosphere that seems to make all of the difference at Breedlove. As General Manager, David Fish explained, the best part of Breedlove is: “the people that we work with: the dedicated employees that generate food everyday, the partners we depend on to deliver that food to the needy, and the people in this region that have shown so much interest and support in our endeavors.” All of the managers agree that teamwork is what makes Breedlove a unique and enjoyable environment to work in everyday. Elbia Galo described this relationship as being, “…more like working with friends and family.”
In this pleasant working environment, the mission of Breedlove is the driving force behind each manager’s motivation. “I want to make a difference in the world … When I look in the mirror, I want to feel proud of what I’m doing.” This is how JoAnn Huffman describes what drives her. As the warehouse manager, Joann can definitely be proud of her role in serving the hungry. As Hope Floeck explains, “Breedlove sent out enough food in 2005 to programs around the world and here at home to feed the entire state of Texas one meal a day for a week.”
The Breedlove team is constantly improving the efficiency of the food production process in order to increase the number of people they can feed. Those who are not well associated with Breedlove may not realize the groundbreaking, innovative process that takes place right here in Lubbock, Texas. David Fish explains, “I enjoy the challenge of trying to assist people in need in a unique way that has no precedence. We are treading into areas in humanitarian relief that have not been explored before. Breedlove works to make underutilized food available to those in need and there’s a satisfaction in taking the surplus on one end, the need on the other and being able to connect them so that people receive the help that they need.”
This help is being seen all over the world. Through the efforts of the entire Breedlove family, food is being supplied in astonishing numbers. Paul Vasquez oversees this food production. “In 2006 we dried 10,096,506 pounds of raw potatoes which yielded 1, 705,189 pounds of dehydrated potatoes. That means that we sent out over 160,000,000 servings to feed hungry people.” We can be sure that this team will continually strive to accomplish the mission of Breedlove by increasing the servings that are sent out around the world. The process is in place, the team is assembled, and the mission is worthy. Paul further explained that Breedlove has the capacity to easily produce twice as much as we did in 2006 if the funds become available. There seems to be a sense among the management team that they are a small part of a very big picture at Breedlove. The donors, partners, volunteers, and staff each play a vital role that only they can fill. Hope describes each member of the Breedlove team as important links in the chain to fulfill our mission to feed the hungry. As we work toward this mission, we can be thankful for the dynamic management team that leads the way. |
